Petition Turn In

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

This week is the FINAL WEEK for getting the signatures, and we will be delivering them to the State Board of Elections early next week to meet the deadline. Anyone who volunteered to circulate petitions for signatures will need to:

1. Try to finish up your signature sheets.

2. Fill out the affidavit on the back and have a notary public notarize your signing of the affidavit. A good place you can usually find a free notary public is your bank or credit union.

3. Find a way to get the signatures back to the campaign NO LATER THAN SUNDAY EVENING (6/6/2010).

4. If you know of anyone else who was circulating petitions, please forward these instructions to them and have them send in their sheets after they sign the affidavit (notarized).

Thank you for volunteering, and Semper Fi!

Ken Hoagland on Fox News’ “Huckabee”

Monday, April 5th, 2010

I saw this on my friend Mr. Clinard’s Facebook wall. Nice little six minute segment on the FairTax Plan and how it is the ONLY stimulus the U.S. economy needs.

History in the making!

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

A historic vote was made this evening on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Democrats passed a massive health care and health insurance reform bill despite the majority of Americans wanting no such part of it.

What will also be a “first” and very “historic” will be when the first Libertarian Party candidate is elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in November of 2010, sworn in the following January, and sponsors the bill to repeal it. If you want to be a part of making history, now is your chance. Contribute, volunteer, vote. Now is the time.

Democrat or Republican?

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

It’s a question I get all the time. Almost every day. When I tell people I’m running for congress, they ask if I am a Democrat or a Republican. It is very, very predictable. Some people even believe it says in the Constitution that we’re supposed to have two parties: Democrats and Republicans. The concept of a party other than a Democrat or Republican is just foreign to some people! They don’t understand that there are better alternatives out there. When I say I’m a member of the Libertarian Party, it’s almost like their brain short circuits or something.

I usually use the question as a starting point to determine what matters most to the individual I’m talking to. What I find is that many people who vote for Republicans and call themselves Republicans are actually Libertarians. I also find that most Democrats value fiscal responsibility but want to protect social freedoms. Funny how that works out. Take the World’s Smallest Political Quiz and find out where you stand.

In an effort to help spread the word and give more resources to individuals who want more information about liberty-minded principles, I added a page to help people understand what the Libertarian Party is. I also added some links on the sidebar of the site to sites with more information about libertarian principles and ideals. If you have any to add to the mix, please feel free to leave a comment!

VCDL and Self Defense

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

This evening I had the opportunity to attend a local meeting of the Virginia Citizen’s Defense League (VCDL) here in Salem, VA. The VCDL is a very active organization that helps protect citizens’ rights to defend themselves by working with our state lawmakers towards sensible gun-related laws and protection of our constitutional 2nd amendment rights. Chip and Jo’s restaurant hosted the event, and I was very pleased to see the entire restaurant was full of VCDL members and visitors! After enjoying a wonderful meal, Mr. Al Steed offered me the opportunity to speak. I wanted to make sure everyone else knows a little bit about what I said tonight because I think what I mentioned is important for all to understand. Here are a few bullet points from my short address to tonight’s attendees:

  • I wholeheartedly support the 2nd amendment.
  • I am a Concealed Handgun Permit holder.
  • I think our government should serve to protect our rights instead of constantly trying to whittle away at them.
  • I am not a lawyer nor am I a career politician.
  • I have nothing against lawyers, but I do think we already have plenty in Washington D.C.
  • As of yet, there is no need to worry about “splitting the conservative vote” for this year’s congressional election here in Virginia’s 6th district.
  • I support Virginia’s assertion of its sovereignty through the current Healthcare Freedom Act and Firearms Freedom Act making their way through the state legislature. In addition to these 10th amendment legislative items being worked on at the state level, I feel it is important to have someone fighting for constitutional restraint at the federal level. I will be that person.

I am very humbled to have been afforded the opportunity to speak and, more especially meet and shake hands with VCDL’s President, Mr. Philip Van Cleave. I gladly handed him my membership application and $25 membership fee to join this fine organization.

– Stuart

Rally Day Followup

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Monday, I had the opportunity to travel to Richmond, Virginia for lobby day. Held on the federal holiday observing Martin Luther King’s birthday, lobby day is the first day of the new legislative year for the Commonwealth’s lawmakers in Richmond. Citizens from across Virginia take advantage of the holiday and day off to travel to Richmond and voice their opinions and concerns to their state legislators. In years past, groups gathered hundreds on the capitol grounds to rally support for, or opposition against, proposed legislation. Monday marked a new record of people who turned out to relay their opinion to their lawmakers. Back-to-back rallies for the Tea Party Movement(s) from around Virginia and the Virginia Citizen’s Defense League resulted in, not hundreds, but thousands of concerned citizens coming out to show their support for both organizations en mass. Supposedly, this one-two knockout rally punch resulted in the largest turnout ever seen on lobby day.

I am honored and humbled to have had the opportunity to join the thousands of patriots at the rallies to voice our support for Virginia’s pending  legislation to assert Virginia’s sovereignty and protect our freedoms, liberties, and rights from overbearing federal legislation, regulation, and interference. I extend my gratitude and appreciation to all who attended to voice their opinion, regardless of whether or not they completely agree with my, or any other attendee’s, opinions and stances on the issues.
