A representative from the Virginia Campaign for Liberty recently sent me their candidate survey to complete. Read on for the questions they posed and my answers. Have any input? Leave a comment.

1. Will you cosponsor and call for roll call votes on Ron Paul’s Audit the Fed bill, designed to bring transparency to the Federal Reserve (H.R. 1207/ S. 604 in the 111th Congress)?

Yes.

2. Will you support legislation removing capital gains and sales taxes on gold and silver coinage?

Yes. I support removing all capital gains taxes globally, not just on gold and silver coinage.

3. Will you vote to oppose any legislation that allows the federal government to prohibit the sale, use, or carrying of firearms?

Yes. I wholeheartedly support the protection of our 2nd Amendment rights and will vote to oppose any legislation that unconstitutionally gives the federal government powers in contradiction thereof.

4. Will you support a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution that includes hard spending limits and allows for no increase in taxes or other federal revenue enhancements?

Yes. The rest of the country has to live on a balanced budget or face the consequences. It’s about time our federal government does the same.

5. Will you support legislation that forbids U.S. troops from serving under United Nations command?

I will support legislation that forbids forcing U.S. troops to serve under United Nations command.

6. Do you support and will you vote to protect states asserting their rights under the Tenth Amendment?

Yes. I support measures such as Virginia’s current Healthcare Freedom Act and Firearms Freedom Act and will ensure such measures are protected at the federal level.

7. Will you oppose Big Labor’s Card Check bill and any other legislation designed to empower union bosses?

Yes.

8. Do you support U.S. withdrawal from the United Nations?

At this point in time, the UN is a bad investment for the United States. I think we can assert our sovereignty and maintain our status among nations without withdrawing from the UN. As a last resort, should the UN refuse to amend and modify its policies and operations to respect our sovereignty and laws, I will support a withdrawal from the UN.

9. Will you support the American Sovereignty Act to restrict the Executive’s ability to forge international agreements that lessen our sovereignty?

Yes.

10. Will you oppose using U.S. forces to occupy a foreign nation without a declaration of war?

Yes.

11. Will you oppose any attempt to nationalize our health care system, including any sort of public option for insurance?

Yes.

12. Will you oppose so-called “Cap and Trade” legislation?

Yes.

13. Will you vote to eliminate the IRS?

Yes. I support the FairTax Plan as the substitution for our current tax law. It includes repealing the 16th amendment and abolishing the IRS.

14. Will you vote against any budget that increases our debt?

Yes.

15. Will you oppose federal power grabs like roving wiretaps and warrantless searches, and oppose Patriot Act renewal that includes such items?

Yes.

16. Will you oppose any legislation that requires states and citizens to participate in a National Identification Card program?

Yes.

17. Will you oppose the so-called “NAFTA Superhighway” and any move toward a North American Union?

Yes. I support free trade and laissez faire economics, but not at the expense of our sovereignty or our ability to travel freely throughout our country without the burden of excessive highway taxes and tolls.

18. Will you support legislation that ensures Members of Congress have at least 72 hours to read any bill before it is allowed to come to the House floor?

Yes and no. I think legislators need to read the legislation, but if the bill is only a page long then I’m not going to give them 72 hours to read it. I do think a reasonable amount of time for the bill to be made publicly available for review is necessary too; however, I do not think we need a full 72 hours to accomplish this in this day and age.

19. Will you oppose all tax increases?

Yes.

20. Indicate the tax cuts you are willing to vote for:

All of the taxes listed below are eliminated as part of the FairTax Plan. If given the opportunity to vote on each of them individually, I will vote yes to cutting each.

• Across the Board Income Tax Cut

• Capital Gains Tax Cut

• Capital Gains Tax Cut

• Estate Tax Cut
